An introduction to tapas

Linguistically, the meaning is an extension of the word "tapa", meaning lid in Spanish.  Created in the humid bars of Andalucia in southern Spain, tapas were originally, either a slice of bread, cheese or ham that was placed over a glass of sherry to stop the insects from gaining access! 

In the last decade or so, Tapas have conquered the world!  From their humble beginnings, a diversity of elaborated Spanish-style feasting has been borne!

The idea is to order three or four tapas per person and share them. A buffet in the middle of your table is the best way to describe the experience.  Once you have finished these, order some more, if you've room!

A Portuguese Cataplana is a copper, clam shaped cooking pot.  All the ingredients are steamed inside the Cataplana and then served to your table.  It is then opened up, in front of you so you can gain the maximum aromatic buzz from all the fresh ingredients.

The ingredients that can be used are endless, the possibilities are enormous.  At Volare we have narrowed it down to two but any special requests are welcomed.
